Collections Management Intern

Type: Collections (Spring, 2023)

Reports To: Executive Director, Curatorial Assistant

Time: Approximately 5-10 hours per week for 1 semester (up to 120 hours), Days flexible

Status: Part time-temporary, $20/hr

Position Summary: The Collections Intern will play an important role in a planned collections management project. Intern will participate in a collections inventory to include database updates, condition reporting, object photography and documentation, and numbering of objects. 

In this learning role, you will develop familiarity and confidence in using collections management software (CatalogIt), doing historic and object-based research, and an overall appreciation and understanding of the work of historic house museums.

Requirements:  

  • Current student enrolled in a Museum Studies, History, Public History, or similar program. Graduate student preferred.

  • Interest in historic house museums and local history 

  • Computer proficiency required (Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe software a plus)

  • Knowledge of current museum methods and practices preferred

  • Familiarity with current museum registration methods a plus

Work Environment: Most work will take place on site. Some work may be completed virtually if needed. The Camron-Stanford House is a 19th century building and is not fully ADA accessible. This role may require using narrow staircases and lifting up to 50 lbs. 

About the Camron-Stanford House: The Camron-Stanford House is the last of the beautiful 19th century mansions that once surrounded Lake Merritt, and was the home to five influential families before becoming the first museum in the City of Oakland. The restored home helps visitors time travel to the 1880s and enter meticulously recreated living spaces. In addition, the house presents various exhibits throughout the year that focus on aspects of Victorian life and culture.
