Camron-Stanford House: Volunteer Powered
The Camron-Stanford House relies on the support of a wonderful team of volunteers. Volunteers help with everything from greeting visitors to giving tours, and assisting with research for new exhibits.
Volunteer opportunities are available in the following categories:
Visitor Services Volunteers - Visitor Services Volunteers welcome visitors at the house’s side entrance during open hours, provide information about admission fees and schedules, and answer basic questions. This position is often the first point of contact for visitors.
Docents - Docents lead visitors through the house and galleries, providing information about the history of the house, its architecture, and the artifacts on display. They help enhance the visitor experience by sharing knowledge and stories.
Event Volunteers - Event Volunteers plan and assist with special events, fundraisers, and programs hosted by the Camron-Stanford House. This may include coordinating logistics, setting up, and helping with event management.
Benefits of volunteering:
Learn about Oakland city history from its early beginnings
Share your knowledge with new friends and the general public
Ongoing educational opportunities throughout the year
Invitations to “field trips” to other Oakland community spaces, historic homes, and happenings
Support your local historic house museum, the last Victorian house on Lake Merritt!
Volunteers are expected to contribute at least 35 hours per year. Some volunteer roles might require additional training. We generally are in need of volunteers for our open hours on Sundays.
