A Letter from our (Outgoing) Executive Director
April 28, 2023
Dear Camron-Stanford House Community:
They say that change is the only constant, and that certainly has been true during my time at the Camron-Stanford House. When I stepped through these doors as an intern many moons ago, I never could have imagined the opportunities– or the challenges– that lay ahead. Now, after leading the organization through pandemic related closures, re-establishing our CSH community, and other significant changes, I feel that it is time for someone else to take the helm and guide the museum into its next chapter.
During my time here, we have made great strides in revitalizing our exhibit program, creating engaging programs and events, and building a community, together. I am particularly proud of our efforts to embrace inclusive and diverse exhibits and research, which have helped us to better reflect on the rich and complex history of Oakland and the greater 19th century experience, as well as our work towards bringing the museum into conversations about modern, professional museum practices. My greatest hope is that Camron-Stanford House will continue this important work, and continue to grow and thrive under future leadership.
To our visitors, thank you for your curiosity, enthusiasm, and support. Your interest in our exhibits and programs is what makes this museum such a special place. I hope that you will continue to visit and share your love of history with others.
To our members, thank you for your dedication and generosity. Your support is what enables us to keep the museum's doors open and to continue our important work. I have enjoyed getting to know many of you personally and spending time with you at our programs and events. Your passion for history and your commitment to Camron-Stanford House is truly inspiring. I encourage you to stay involved and to help shape the organization's future.
As I prepare for my departure from Camron-Stanford House, I am reminded of all the wonderful memories and relationships that I have formed during my time here. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from an incredibly talented staff and dedicated volunteers who hold the organization's best interests at heart. I am grateful for the friendships that have been formed between Camron-Stanford House and the other history organizations in our region. I will remain in this role through July to help the Camron-Stanford House Preservation prepare for a leadership transition. I hope to hear from and connect with all of you during these last few months. And while I leave a piece of my heart here, I wish the museum and its community all the best as it moves forward into its next chapter.
Sincerely,
Iliana Morton
