Volunteer/Docent Training (Session 1 of 2)

  • Camron-Stanford House 1418 Lakeside Drive Oakland, CA, 94612 United States (map)

Become a Camron-Stanford House Volunteer!

Volunteers have always been at the heart of our organization! Now is your chance to get involved and join our volunteer team! Our volunteers serve as visitor greeters, facilitate self-guided tours, design and lead their own tours, help at events, and much more!

Volunteers are expected to contribute at least one Sunday shift per month where you will serve as a visitor greeter and/or tour facilitator (for those ready to do so). Additional opportunities to join planning committees for events and exhibits open throughout the year.

Docents receive a complementary membership to CSH, renewable on their anniversary date with every year of service.

Session 1: CSH History and the Role of the Docent (May 20)

Learn about the people who lived and worked at Camron-Stanford House. We will talk about how we share these stories— through our self guided tours and docent-guided tours— and the role of the docent in supporting discovery and creating an engaging experience for visitors. You will have the opportunity to work on planning your own mini-tour during this workshop.

Session 2: Operational Logistics and Visitor Services- Date TBD (June)

Session 2 will focus on the nuts and bolts of the house— literally! Learn how to check in visitors, open/close the house, sign up for shifts, and other operational information.

Self-Paced Learning Modules

A series of self-paced learning modules must be completed online. On your own time watch our pre-recorded training lectures and complete a brief reflection assignment.
