It’s time to get your tickets for Dapper Croquet

It’s time to get your tickets for Dapper Croquet Day on July 24!

Your tickets includes a fresh mint julep or lemonade, a variety of lawn games, museum admission, amazing lake views, and summer fun! We still have croquet spots open for those who wish to join in on a round or two (prizes will be available!) Bring along a picnic and participate in the ultimate leisure sport!

If you were letting your ideas about what yesterday’s “What That Gadget” challenge percolate, and thinking it might have a thing or two to do with coffee, you are on the right track!

What we have here is a 19th century tilting coffee pot, or a “tipper”. This one is silver plate, but most tippers operated similarly— boiling hot water added to the lower dish heats the brewing coffee or tea in the interior percolator (or keeps already brewed coffee nice and warm!). The pot, attached to a hinge, could then be conveniently tipped to pour coffee into a waiting cup.

A tipper like this would have been a popular choice for serving guests during the 19th century. Could you imagine having friends over for coffee and pouring into their waiting mugs from this?
