Do
you treasure Oakland and local history?
Are
you interested in the restoration of historic homes?
Is
Victorian architecture and culture an interest of yours?
This
is a terrific opportunity learn more about your interests and give
historical guided tours of the Camron-Stanford House, an
architectural gem that is a City, County, and State landmark, and
listed on a National Register of Historic Places. The beautifully
restored 1876 Italianate Victorian house is located on the shore of
Oakland’s Lake Merritt in Lakeside Park. Our training course
for
new docents begins in late February and lasts for 9 weeks. You will
learn from knowledgeable guest speakers, interesting lectures, and a
wide range of training materials about Oakland-area history, life in
the late 19th century, and how to give
an educational tour.
The BENEFITS
OF BECOMING A VOLUNTEER DOCENT

bygone days of Oakland, the Bay Area, and the significance of the
Camron-Stanford House in California history

with similar interests
-
Train with experts
on local history, late 19th century decorative arts,
Victorian culture and gardens, museum education techniques, and the
restoration and preservation of this historic architectural gem
-
Become an
“insider” at a distinguished, beautiful Bay Area
house museum
-
Give back to the
community while having fun in the process
Docents
undergo an intensive training process, which teaches good

about the house's historical significance and its collections.
Reading lists are provided to add to the information provided during
